Charleston’s Own offers a unique taste of the Lowcountry with our famous Stone Ground Grits. Select corn is ground on traditional granite mill stones to provide an old fashioned texture and flavor. Grits are a southern staple and have been a fixture in Charleston cooking since the original settlement of 1670.  Use stone ground grits for the a traditional Shrimp and Grits recipe.  They can be served with breakfast, lunch or dinner. Experience a history you can taste!

Stone ground grits differ from store bought "Quick Grits".  In Quick Grits, the outside of the corn kernel has been removed to reduce cooking time.  As a result, the consumer loses a large amount of flavor and texture.  While cooking stone ground grits will be a bit longer process, the end product is much different.

When cooking stone ground grits, typically it is a 4:1 ratio of liquid to grits.  This ratio can be reduced depending upon how one enjoys their grits cooked.
